For in vitro laboratory research use only. Definitions are for information only. Peptix makes no claims about the effects of any material it sells.
Short, plain definitions of the terms you’ll see on Peptix product pages and on the Certificates of Analysis for the lots listed on our COA page.
A–Z
- Accession number: an identifier the testing lab assigns to a submission. Together with the client and search code, it identifies the submission at the testing lab.
- Amino acid: the building block of peptides. A peptide is a short chain of amino acids joined by peptide bonds.
- Appearance: how the sample looked when the lab received it, for example “White Lyophilized Powder.”
- Certificate of Analysis (COA): the report an analytical laboratory issues after testing a sample from a specific lot. A certificate reports results for the sample tested. It is not a guarantee for other lots.
- Chromatogram: the trace recorded during chromatography. In the chromatogram, the largest peak is the main component used for the purity calculation; smaller peaks are other components detected by the method.
- HPLC-UV purity: the share of the main peak in the chromatogram measured by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection, reported as a percentage. More
- Identity (LC-MS): liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry, used to check that the measured mass matches the expected compound. It confirms identity, not purity. More
- In vitro: work done in a laboratory setting, such as in cell cultures or test tubes, rather than in a living organism.
- Labeled amount: the amount stated on the product label, for example “10 mg per vial.”
- Lot (batch): the production batch a sample came from. A certificate applies only to that lot. Match the lot on your vial to the lot on the certificate.
- Lyophilized: freeze-dried; water removed to leave a dry powder. Peptix research peptides are supplied as lyophilized powder.
- Mass spectrum: where a mass spectrum is printed, it shows the measured masses used for the identity check.
- Molecular weight: the mass of a molecule, usually given in g/mol or daltons (Da). Published values are reference figures for the compound, not measurements of a specific lot.
- Net content: the amount the lab measured in the tested vial, as printed on the certificate. It can differ from the labeled amount stated on the product label.
- Peptide: a short chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds.
- Reported date: when the lab issued the report.
- Research use only (RUO): sold for in vitro laboratory research only. Not for human or animal use.
- Storage (lyophilized material): store lyophilized material in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture; refrigeration (about 4 °C) is recommended. Handling is the responsibility of the qualified research facility. More
- Third-party testing: testing by an independent laboratory rather than by the seller. Peptix certificates are issued by Freedom Diagnostics.
