TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4): A Research Overview

For in vitro laboratory research use only. This overview summarizes published laboratory literature. It is not a guide to use outside the laboratory, and Peptix makes no claims about the effects of any material it sells.

TB-500 is the product name Peptix uses for a synthetic research peptide that its batch Certificate of Analysis identifies as thymosin beta-4 by LC-MS. It is supplied to laboratories as a lyophilized powder for in vitro research. This page covers what thymosin beta-4 is, how it is described in the biochemistry literature, and how it is typically stored in the lab.

What thymosin beta-4 is

  • Type: a small, acidic peptide of the beta-thymosin family, about 5 kDa (43 amino acids)
  • Identity on the Peptix COA: “Thymosin Beta-4” (LC-MS), lot TB-20260521-01
  • Form supplied by Peptix: white lyophilized powder, labeled 10 mg per vial
  • Purity: reported per lot by HPLC-UV. See the Certificate of Analysis page.

How the literature describes thymosin beta-4

Thymosin beta-4 is best known in the biochemistry literature as an actin-binding peptide. Actin is a structural protein that cells use to build and remodel their internal scaffold. In laboratory experiments, thymosin beta-4 was shown to bind actin monomers (G-actin) in a 1:1 complex and to inhibit their polymerization; it was also found to be identical to “Fx,” an actin-sequestering peptide isolated from platelets (Safer et al., J Biol Chem, 1991). Reviews of the beta-thymosin family describe these peptides as widely distributed across cell types, with actin sequestration as their best-characterized function (Huff et al., Int J Biochem Cell Biol, 2001).

Published findings describe experimental observations in specific models. They don’t establish any effect outside the laboratory.

Laboratory handling and storage

Store lyophilized material in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture; refrigeration (about 4 °C) is recommended. Handling is the responsibility of the qualified research facility.

Batch documentation

The lots of TB-500 listed on our COA page each have a third-party Certificate of Analysis showing the lot number, HPLC-UV purity and LC-MS identity (thymosin beta-4). Match the lot number on your vial to the certificate on our COA page.
